EWM Scottish Deer Centre Scoops top Award and gains Zoo status

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill-owned Scottish Deer Centre in Cupar has been named the Best Visitor Attraction in Fife in the Local Hero Awards operated by radio station Kingdom FM and gained official Zoo status through being accepted as a member of BIAZA, (British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquariums the international), the voice of British Zoos and Aquariums.

Gaining BIAZA accreditation recognises the important role the Deer Centre is playing in animal conservation and public education and opens up new opportunities for the attraction to become involved with international breeding and conservation programmes.

Simon Louden, Head Ranger at The Scottish Deer Centre said: “BIAZA membership  is something we have been working towards for years and we are all delighted to now officially be a “Zoo”. When visitors come here they are playing a vital part in helping us to continue with our conservation and breeding programmes developed to help to ensure the survival of endangered species.”

One of Edinburgh Woollen Mill’s popular Simply the Best sites , the Scottish Deer Centre is located in Cupar near the A92 in Fife, Scotland. It features the Zoo plus a retail store showcasing The Edinburgh Woollen Mill’s collections of ladies, men’s and children’s fashions, gift shop, Highland food and whisky shop and an attractive cafĂ©.  Visitors will not only find around 150 deer but also other animals linked to deer and their habitat including wolves, birds of prey, Scottish wild cats, Soay sheep and otters.

David Read, Marketing Manager for Edinburgh Woollen Mill said: “Our team at the Scottish Deer Centre do an amazing job of providing not only  a wonderful environment for the animals but also an enriching experience for our visitors. We hope that our new Award combined with gaining BIAZA accreditation and the international status it brings will attract even more people to the Deer Centre.”

The Scottish Deer Centre has free parking for cars and coaches and is part of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Simply the Best coach drivers incentive programme.
